Cuckoo

The cuckoo bird is a brood parasite. The cuckoo lays its eggs in the nests of other bird species. The cuckoo chick will push the other eggs and chicks out of the nest and monopolise the food provided by the nesting birds.

I used a three color wash in this painting. The sky was purple and blue. The sea was blue and green. And the hill were washed with green.

Sea

I painted the clouds using the nijimi technique. Nijimi in Japanese means to bleed. The bleeding produces a lighter halo around the brush stroke.

Chestnut

The American Chestnut Tree was almost wiped out by a blight fungus imported from Asia. An new American Chestnut Tree has been created using genetic material from Asian Chestnut Trees. Efforts are being made to repopulate North America with the new fungus resistant tree.

Figure

Life drawing class has begun. This five minute sketch was made with an Itoya Doubleheader Calligraphy marking pen. The ink is water soluble so a waterbrush pen will liquefy the dark ink and spread it.
